Dr. Tom Toulios

Toulios_bio_family.jpgDr. Tom Toulios’ beliefs about health and healing have shifted dramatically over the years.  As a youngster his mother was a medical doctor, and he was raised under the traditional medical model of healthcare.  His experience in health and healing consisted of taking antibiotics when you were sick.

In high school he became interested in athletics.  Inspired by a book authored by a weight-lifter who was also a chiropractor, he took interest in the role of the brain and nervous system in overall body function.  He had never before considered that the body was in fact a self-healing, self-regulating system, yet the philosophy made complete sense to him.

His new understanding of health and wellness closely matched the chiropractic philosophy and Dr. Toulios enrolled at Life University in Atlanta, where he graduated with a Doctorate of Chiropractic.  He continues to study and advance his knowledge of nutrition and rehabilitation, in addition to chiropractic, attending many advanced training seminars each year.

Dr. Toulios has been serving the healthcare needs of Southside Chicago area residents since 1990, and is particularly adaptive to the needs and concerns of families and children, being a father of two young children himself.  Over the years he’s earned a reputation for his thorough and straight-forward diagnosis and excellent treatment results and approach to care.

“When I’m working with my patients I’m careful to be realistic,” says Dr. Toulios.  “When you’re in pain and desperate for better health, it’s easy to jump in with both feet and try to change your entire lifestyle overnight.  While I’m thrilled with that level of enthusiasm, I also know that it’s not very practical to change every unhealthy habit in your life concurrently.”

Dr. Toulios believes in first recommending what will have the greatest and most immediate impact, his primary concern being to get his patients back to a lifestyle that is with less pain, improved motion and better overall health.  Once that goal has been achieved he inspires patients to slowly add new and healthier choices over time.  “Rather than getting overwhelmed and giving up, with this approach my patients achieve success by starting small, experience some immediate results, and steadily build toward their health goals.”

The most rewarding aspect of Dr. Toulios’ work is seeing the paradigm shift that takes place when patients experience a change in belief and a sense of empowerment over their own health.  “To see a patient get the bigger idea of health is exciting for me.  You can practically see the light bulb come on when they realize they’re active participants in their health and where they want to take it; they’re not just a bystander who is told by their doctor what to do,” said Dr. Toulios.  “I’ve served many patients over the years. They have become wonderful friends and I’m honored to be a partner in their good health.”

Dr. Cheryl Petschke

Cheryl-Website-Bio_1.jpgDr. Cheryl Petschke has been involved in the health, wellness and nutrition field for more than a decade.  Dr. Petschke strongly believes that true health and wellness comes from within each individual. She believes that chiropractic is a tool that everyone can utilize to help remove physical stressors caused by our fast paced lifestyles so that the body can function as it was intended without pain, discomfort or other malfunction.

As a chiropractic physician, Dr Petschke believes in teaching her patients how chiropractic care can fit into a pro-active lifestyle to allow each individual to achieve optimal health. She not only draws on her formal education to assist her patients, but also on the knowledge she has gained as a mother of 5 beautiful children.

“As a young mother, I was amazed at the changes in my children when we added chiropractic care to our lives. The kids all seemed to be better focused, and therefore more successful in school.  The boys were sharper athletically, and we rarely suffered from the typical colds and flu that everyone else had.”

These discoveries prompted her to learn more about the field of chiropractic, and eventually return to school to earn her Doctorate of Chiropractic from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa.  Over the years, Dr Petschke has expanded her knowledge in areas of diet and nutrition, toxicity and exercise, as well as new techniques in the field of chiropractic, in order to better serve her patients and their families.
